My Own Drawings and Sketches – A Personal Artistic Journey
Welcome to The Artist's Own Sketches to Color, a personal and unique collection of coloring pages created by artist Stacey Mayer. This section offers something truly special: original sketches straight from the artist’s own drawing pad, featuring her favorite animals, species, and breeds she admires.
Unlike traditional commercial coloring pages, these drawings are left as rough sketches with natural, uneven lines. Stacey intentionally kept them raw to give you a glimpse into her creative process — to show how she finds the lines when drawing.
This collection is perfect for those who want a more authentic artistic experience. As you color these pages, you'll feel connected to the artist's own style and approach to art. Whether it's a majestic horse, a graceful bird, or a fantasy creature, each page tells a story of creative exploration.

Stacey says: "I wanted my coloring books to keep their spontaneity. I know I'd choose something that would show me how to do more than just color between oversimplified lines. I want you to draw with me, not simply 'fill in empty spaces.'"
Thankfully, we’re living through a coloring book renaissance, where people of all ages seek original, authentic pages to color. Learning how to draw is the foundation of art and design, and it begins with endless sketching and learning from each subject. Stacey’s coloring pages encourage you to “sketch” along and develop your artistic eye.
🖌️ Why Sketch Along?
As Stacey explains, "When I draw, I want you to find the edges, shapes, and textures with me. As my eye follows the outline of whatever I’m drawing, I’m following the movement of each subject. I want to pull your eye along that line so you can feel the energy of that Arabian horse or Betta fish. It’s not about filling between the lines; it’s about the line itself."
To learn more about how Stacey draws, she recommends the book "The Natural Way to Draw" by Kimon Nicolaïdes, which teaches readers how to feel the volume and motion of their subjects. "I began learning from this book when I was about eleven years old, and it’s still the foundation of how I see things today," she says.
"It’s my pleasure to share my drawings with you. I hope to encourage your own talent and remind you to keep drawing! I’ve drawn horses thousands of times over the decades, and they rarely come out exactly as I planned. But that’s the beauty of sketching — each drawing is part of the journey."
Stacey fills her sketchbook with many kinds of animals and people, and encourages you to do the same.
🎨 Final Encouragement:
"We start each work of art as an imperfect sketch, just like the art in my coloring book. Practicing with me is a good place to start. Come, and let’s find the lines together."
